From the Director’s Desk…..

Sudhir Gandhir, Director Operations
My dear members of our Oriental Family:
We celebrated Republic Day on the 26th January 2011. Our MD Shri Vishweshbhai led us for the flag hoisting ceremony.
If we recall, our fore fathers created Republic of India on 26th January 1948 after we got independence on 15th August 1947. What did that mean? It meant that the country was from that moment onwards was ruled by the people and for the people. It was implied off course that country’s interests were to be safe guarded.
We at Oriental are also trying to work on the similar lines even though we are a professional business enterprise as against our country. We are trying to pass on the authority at various levels down to the junior officers’ levels to make all of us feel that they belong to the company and the company belongs to them.
Let us take a decision, each one of us individually to understand the philosophy of this concept and get involved in the affairs of the company to that an extent that it is own company. We must feel pained at realizing some loss to the company’s interests and feel joyous about achievements of the company or any member of the family.
This attitude will without doubt take our company to new heights of glory in the same way as our country has done as we are all feeling proud to be Indians. Let us feel proud to be part of Oriental.
Jai Hind. Long live Oriental.

Win & Loss it’s a part of game, out of this we can learn lesion for our professional life,5 Managements lessons we can learn from Sachin Tendulkar’s career
1. Equanimity
I think equanimity, the ability to keep your cool during stressful events, is perhaps the most important management quality to learn from Sachin Tendulkar. In short, he carries the expectations of a billion people on his shoulders every time he goes out to bat and still scores thousands of runs. The fact that he has scored 14,240 runs with an average of 56.96 in Tests and 17,598 runs with an average of 45.12 in ODIs serves as a testament for the steadiness of his mind under stress. Hence, a management student should not crumble under pressure but instead build the characteristic of equanimity.
2. Inspiration
Sachin Tendulkar has an undying inspiration to play for India which keeps him performing at his optimal for 21 years. Along with self-inspiration, Thus, a good manager has to be inspired from within to work efficiently but more importantly he should have the quality of inspiring his co-workers.
3. Follow Through
One thing we know about Sachin Tendulkar is that ever shot he plays is carried to a natural completion or in other words he follows through every single time. He gives his 100% in every shot he plays and he carries the shot to full completion. In similar way, a manager or management student should learn that if they commit to something then they should follow through it successfully
4. Innovation/Creativeness
We all face hard problems in our work but very few of us can think outside the box and come up with creative solutions to them. Perhaps this is why creativeness is the most sought after quality in the industry. The 21 years of playing has taken some toll on the body of Sachin Tendulkar but he has come up with some of the most creative shots in Cricket to overcome his aging tolls.
5. Accept the Change
Sachin made his debut against Pakistan in 1989 and since then the game of Cricket has changed a lot. The game has seen emergence of T20 Cricket, Free Hits, Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) and what not. I have seen the game evolve from the comfort of my couch but Sachin has been a part of that evolution. The reason why he survived the change is because didn’t resist it instead he accepted the change and made the most out of it. A management student and/or a good manager should learn to accept the change in the market conditions and make the most out of it.

AFTER SALES SERVICE
After sales service has become one of the most important activities for the organization particularly for growing organizations like us striving for establishing brand in the market.
Customers have become demanding for the performance of the items they have procured and evaluate the organization on the basis of after sales service provided to them in terms of promptness & quality. A positive feedback from the customers helps organizations developing a family of loyal customers and spread the message word by mouth amongst the industry helping to develop new customers. It is always better to retain existing customers and that is possible by effective after sales service.
To provide effective after sales service will require organization. The organization should work out procedure for after sales service. The procedure has to be tailor made for each company which can be developed based on data collected from the feedback received from customers and other sources like reports from the service personnel, telephonic conversation with customers, enquiry and tender requirements, etc. an analysis of the data collected for the year to gather with sales forecast for the next year should be taken as a base for setting up organization for the after sales service.
Procedure for the after sales service may be as under:
- Acknowledge customer feedback in writing and give tentative time schedule for follow up action if required.
- Study the issue where follow up action is required and decide on the course of action.
- Give priority where the customer is suffering loss of production
- Intimate customer financial implications if any
- Depute competent technician for the task as soon as possible with intimation to the customer about contact details of the technician.
- Collect service report from the customer with his valuable remarks.
- On return of the technician carry out root cause analysis and decide about corrective actions.
- Intimate customers about the actions taken wherever applicable.
- Intimate concerned departments about the findings of the analysis and suggested actions.
After sales service can be made more effective by following steps taken:
- Thorough checking of drawings to meet with order specifications
- Thorough Q.C. check for all bought out components and manufactured components
- Complete check before dispatch ensuring meeting all requirements as per order specifications.
- Providing proper instructions for installation and maintenance to the customer
- Provide training to the customer’s operator for operation and maintenance
- Maintain proper records of dimensions and specifications for future reference
It would be very good to develop effective format for the service reports and request for feedback from the customers and strive hard to get the same from the customers with persuasion.
Organizations will have to incur costs to provide after sales service and at times more than planned expenses due to demanding customers and agreed commercial terms. In order to reduce the cost and maintain effective service, it is required for the technicians to be trained for collecting service charges dues politely but firmly since most customers tend to ignore payments towards services.

Bye Bye 2010 and Welcome 2011!!!

Vishwesh Patel, Managing Director
First of all let me wish all of you a Very Happy New Year and a promise yet another exiting new year,2011. We at Oriental have had a very eventful 2010 just as we have had our previous 12 years. It always is very challenging, exiting and a new learning experience year on year since our inception. Because we have been very aggressive and growth oriented, we are faced with newer challenges as we master the older ones.
I have had lot of opportunities to visit big companies, and I can proudly and without a doubt state that we areshaping up to be a very disciplined and techno savvy team. We can challenge bigger organizations with our own systems and technical knowledge. We are not afraid of taking up difficult jobs. We are getting more and more confident on our skill sets. We are emerging as one of the most technically sound new organization in our field.
The team, the mindset, the zest is all set for a quantum leap for Oriental and us.We are ready to take the nextbig step.To do this we have also decided to spend significantly on enhancement of our infrastructure in coming two quarter, which undoubtedly will make our set up one of the best in Gujarat.
But with bigger dreams come even bigger responsibilities. We would be facing even bigger challenges, there wouldbe a lot of new learning, there would be a lot more technically challenging jobs. I know you are ready for this but we should not be over confident. We should be working towards honing the soft skills of our workmen, engineers and managers. We should be working towards tighter controls; may it be quality, delivery or cost. We would berequired to train our minds for more innovative approach to the things we do regularly. There is always a betterway to do things. Just because we are doing it one way since years, it does not mean it is the best way! We should be open to learn from our peers, our customers, our suppliers and more importantly our competitors.
Let us welcome this New Year with a very strong motivation to become bigger, better and the best. Let us do what we are best at, “Engineering Growth” Yours Sincerely.

All the festivals that we celebrate have some profound meaning in it and they have some pragmatic purpose also. If we take the example of Christmas, we all know that why it is being celebrated but when it comes to the purposes that it serves...
Happy New Year

Benefits of Meditation.

The natural outcome of yoga is nothing but a meditative state. The spiritual benefit of meditation is soul’s enlightenment and a supreme bliss. Unfortunately, many do not know the health benefits of meditation. Al though, there are few good signs that some people are turning towards meditation and yoga’s to get soul and body peace.
Nowadays, celebrities like film stars and fashion models have included yoga and meditation in their daily regimen. This is due to the fact that when an individual meditates or brings his entire concentration on a particular part or organ of the body, then gradually more amount of blood flows to that part increasing the blood oxygen supply to that part thereby ensuring proper functioning of the system.
Many sportsperson and athletes have regularly employed meditation since it increases concentration greatly. Study shows that the performance of the athletes and performers has steadily increased with the increased activity of meditation techniques by them. Meditation also helps us to increase the mind power and to keep it in control. It also provides effective guidance to the physical body in order to execute the operations effectively.
